The windows in the reception room feature silk curtains. They were chosen to represent the fabric and style that was typical for a house such as this in the 1840's and 1850's. People of that era viewed sunlight as harsh, being bad for skin, furnishings and timbers. Additionally such curtains provided a means of keeping houses warmer in the winter.


Jacob Petite Figurines (French 1835) are on the table in the foreground. (They can be seen from the other side when looking at the photo of the Northern end of the East wall.)

The Mule chest / Oak coffer, is English 1650 and the start of the transition between trunk and wardrobe
