The Missing Painting

Visitors to Franklin House will notice that the blank space over the Northern fireplace in the Reception Room upstairs has gone. The portrait of Lady de Carteret which had been absent for several months is back!

The cedar frame had reached the stage where repairs and renovations were essential for the safety of the painting. Expert John Hay, who specialises in the restoration of antique frames, was called in to undertake this exacting work.

The Trust is pleased to announce the process had been completed and the portrait re-hung in its usual place.

An appeal has been established to help meet the costs of this procedure and also the badly needed conservation of the painting itself. Click here for details.
