Presentations in Clarendon's lecture theatres ~ Technical Requirements

Clarendon has several lecture theatres. Most can equipped with a digital projector and screen. In addition a Trust laptop may be made available on request. There are no provisions for sound (the theatres are small enough for an ordinary speaking voice to be adequate).

In order for your presentation to be properly displayed it should be in 800x600 resolution (1024x768 can be accepted ) and configured to display on a 2nd monitor.

If you use your computer you will need to have an external VGA port to accept the video cable from the projector. If your computer only has an external DVI port you will need a DVI to VGA adaptor.

If you request a Trust computer then your presentation must be suitable for MS Windows PowerPoint 2003, and not contain movies or sound. You may submit your work on either a USB stick or a CD.

Those who wish to use Trust computers for their presentations must contact the Trust well in advance with a copy of their presentation to ensure it is compatible. To avoid disappointment please do not leave this until the last minute. The Trust's I.T. Department is small.

Digital Projectors

The Trust can provide a supervised digital projector and screen in most lecture theatres together with a wall-socket for your laptop’s power.

  • The digital projectors come with a computer-to-projector VGA (not DVI) cable
  • The digital projectors display 800x600 (but will accept 1024x768) resolution
  • The digital projectors do not have a mouse connector and do not broadcast sound.

Hints for using a Trust Computer

The Trust may be able to provide a Windows XP Pro laptop

  • Each computer displays 800x600 (but will accept 1024x768) resolution presentations
  • Each computer runs Microsoft Office 2003 (PowerPoint/Word/Excel)
  • Each computer accepts some USB sticks and some CDs
  • Powerpoint slides are changed by hitting keys on the computer’s keyboard, not by remote control
  • Your PowerPoint presentations should be pre-configured to run on the 2nd monitor at 800x600 (or 1024x768) resolution and not contain movies or sound

Hints for using your computer

If you use your own laptop you are responsible for configuring your machine ensuring that:-

  • Your presentation is designed to display at 800x600 (or 1024x768) resolution
  • Your computer has a VGA port (or a DVI to VGA adaptor)
  • You know how to activate a 2nd monitor (both at the System and Operating System levels
  • You can change your 2nd monitor's screen resolution to 800x600 (or 1024x768)
  • You can configure PowerPoint (or whatever software you are using) to display on the 2nd monitor
  • You can switch off power-saving/sleep/hibernate
  • You can switch off any screen saver.
