Fruit Tree Pruning Workshop - Franklin House

Understand the need to prune a variety of fruit trees. Identifying fruiting habits that need special pruning, where to begin with an overgrown tree, espaliers etc

Citrus Workshop - Franklin House

Collinsvale History Trail
Date: Sunday 12th September 2010 Place: Collinsvale Primary School Collinsvale Rd Collinsvale Phone: Philip Tyrell 03 6223 3059 Time: 10.00 am to 1.30pm Hosted by the Hobart Macquarie Group. Collinsvale has a remarkable history. Early settlers from Germany and Denmark gave the village and region a distinctive character.
Local historian Graham Speight will lead our walk, including a visit to historic Voss Farm, a rare example of timber and mud building known as Fachwerkbau.
BYO picnic lunch.

School Holiday Programme - Franklin House

Step back in time to the 1840's. What did children do to amuse themselves? Franklin House will be offering a selection of activities for 6 to 10 year olds
Activities include pressed flower/leaf cards, kite making, corn dollies, collecting wand, heritage games, miniature scarecrows and mobiles.
Admission: $10 per child. Bookings essential (Maximum 16 children)
Talk - Influences of Culinary Customs Through the Ages with David Barratt

The Big Draw - Franklin House

Peer into the wonderful treasures of Franklin House. Imagine the lives of the people who lived there, find traces of their lives. Use drawing to investigate the past, present and future of Franklin House and create your own memories.
Open to people of all ages and experience. Whether you are confident about drawing or uncertain about your ability to draw, this activity will enable you to use drawing to look closely, to explore and to share ideas.

Walking Tour - St John's Park Precinct

Walking tour of the Orphan Schools and St. John’s Park Precinct, New Town. The tour includes a visit to St. John’s Church and a short organ recital. Learn about the site and its history from one of our tour guides—Joyce Purtscher well known for her work on the children in the Orphan Schools and paupers, or Dianne Snowden our convenor and historian.
Admission: $10 donation towards notes and afternoon tea. Members are asked to bring a plate.
Springtime in Ferntree

Enjoy the delights of Fern Tree in Springtime. Tour two local historic gardens, including ‘High Peak’ at Neika, established in 1892, and visit famous local landmark, St Raphael’s Church. BYO lunch, to be enjoyed in the grounds of the Church.
Walking shoes recommended. Tour concludes about 2:30 pm.

Victorian Picnic - Franklin House
Date: Sunday 14th November 2010 Place: Franklin House 413 Hobart Road, Launceston Phone: 63447824 Time: 11.30 am to 2.30 pm
Picnics were most fashionable in the early Victorian period when Franklin House was built.
Hampers will be available, including a convict hamper for the chldren, to be purchased in advance. For adults there is a choice of two, from the two tiers of society, Clergymen or Squires. Music and children’s games will add to the atmosphere.
