General Meeting & Presentation - St John's Park

A discussion about future uses of our Sunday School building. Come along and share your views. Help the committee to develop a plan for making the most of this exciting opportunity.
Following this general discussion, Dianne Snowden will present a paper with the intriguing title Ten shilings for Loleys: Voices from the Orphan Schools. Dianne recently presented this paper at the Australasian Social History Workshop conference held at the University of New South Wales.

Champagne Breakfast plus Poetry - Franklin House

Come and join us for breakfast under the old Oak trees, in the grounds of Franklin House. Breakfast comprises fresh fruit and yoghurt, cold platter, rolls and home made jams, and of course champagne. The Trust's Poet-in-Residence, Nick Flittner, will give a poetry reading. Admission: $22 per person. Bookings essential
Heritage Fair - Franklin House

Fairs were a traditional part of life in 1838 when Franklin House was built. Locals would get together to sing, dance eat and be merry. It would be an opportunity to sell their wares and even try and pick up work locally. Join us and go back in time to this era.
There will be food and drinks available, stalls, vintage cars, music and dancing plus Heritage games for the younger ones.
This year will feature a traditional Punch and Judy show for the first time!
Admission: Free, with a gold coin donation to view the House.

Autumn Colours in the Derwent Valley - A Guided Walking Hertiage Tour at New Norfolk

Autumn Colours in the Derwent Valley Join us for a heritage tour of the Derwent Valley in all its’ glorious autumn colour. The New Norfolk Historical Society will conduct a guided walking tour of the Village hosted by the Hobart Macquarie Group. Enjoy your BYO picnic lunch in the grounds of historic Valleyfield in the Derwent Valley, the first property to commercially produce Hops in Australia, and after lunch follow a guided tour of the Valleyfield property.

The Big Draw - Franklin House

Peer into the wonderful treasures of Franklin House. Imagine the lives of the people who lived there, find traces of their lives. Use drawing to investigate the past, present and future of Franklin House and create your own memories.
Open to people of all ages and experience. Whether you are confident about drawing or uncertain about your ability to draw, this activity will enable you to use drawing to look closely, to explore and to share ideas.

Walking Tour - St John's Park Precinct

Walking tour of the Orphan Schools and St. John’s Park Precinct, New Town. The tour includes a visit to St. John’s Church and a short organ recital. Learn about the site and its history from one of our tour guides—Joyce Purtscher well known for her work on the children in the Orphan Schools and paupers, or Dianne Snowden our convenor and historian.
Admission: $10 donation towards notes and afternoon tea. Members are asked to bring a plate.

Victorian Picnic - Franklin House

Picnics were most fashionable in the early Victorian period when Franklin House was built.
Hampers will be available, including a convict hamper for the chldren, to be purchased in advance. For adults there is a choice of two, from the two tiers of society, Clergymen or Squires. Music and children’s games will add to the atmosphere.
